Behind the doors of the delivery room, Ashley’s mother screamed out in agony from the contractions she was having

“Ashley Masters anxiously sat on a bench in the maternity ward of Memorial Hospital, resting her elbows on her knees and tapping one foot on the floor. She was wearing blue jeans, a white halter-top and cream flat shoes. Her light brown hair , though shoulder-length, appeared darker as if she had not washed it in three days. Ashley also looked tired however; it was in the wee hours of the morning. A nurse passed by and asked, “Are you all right?” Her voice sounded sentimental. Ashley looked up at the nurse and tried to smile.
With a hint of a Spanish accent she replied, “My mother is having a baby.” The nurse knelt down to eye level, reassuring the young girl that everything will be okay, patting one of her shoulders.
“Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl,” the nurse smiled, her face looked soft.
“They told me, but I didn’t want to know,” Ashley paused, “a boy.”
Behind the doors of the delivery room, Ashley’s mother screamed out in agony from the contractions she was having. Ashley turned her head as tears started to stream down her face, in fear that her beloved mother may not survive – or in fear that her baby brother may not survive. Ashley could not tell with the mixed feelings she was experiencing. “Would you like a drink?” Ashley turned her attention back to the nurse, who was still trying to provide a comforting smile. It was not quite working in her favour. With nearly a stern tone, Ashley said,
“No.” She then paused and apologized for the way she spoke. “I am a doctor in the Disease Research field. I have never been this afraid.”
The nurse took a seat beside Ashley and took her hand, telling her through touch that there was nothing to fear and the success rates with childbirth rate were high.
“But I don’t need to tell you that, dear. What’s your name?”
“Ashley Masters,” she started to wipe tears from her face with the back of her free hand.

Taylor’s fight. Prince’s of Prophecy Book 6: Sniper
Dakota walks in while I’m sitting at the table. “Your guns Brother.”
“Thanks.” I don’t know what to say and look away from him. “Thanks for stepping in last night.” “The light of day makes everything look better. You will feel it soon.” He walks out and I replay that over and over. I hope he’s fuckin right. Looking at my guns I have some doubt. I think about calling Beth and telling her what a pussy I am, but throw it out. She doesn’t need me shooting her and she sure as fuck doesn’t need another dead man in her life. She deserves to be happy. She deserves everything and I can’t even tell her I’ll be there for her tomorrow. I drop my cup in the dishwasher and get to work. Darren is at the door waiting for me to dismiss my first class. When the last Brother is out he closes the door.
“Prez called me. He wants you to know that even if it’s through other people he’s not letting go.” Jesus. I look away.
“With a message like that I think I need to be right here letting you know I am too.” “Thanks VP.”
“No. Darren. You’re one of my closest Brothers. We grew up together. I’m Darren your friend, your family. Talk to me Brother.” I sit in the closest chair to me putting my head in my hands.
“What’s to say? The fuckin nights of hell are worse. Dakota showed taking my guns last night. Apparently I wouldn’t have made it. I don’t even know when it’s happening.” He sits on the side of me.
“Fuck that’s bad Taylor. We can stay with you. We’ll alternate nights.” I laugh. Fuckin great. “Death watch isn’t my style Brother.”
“From the looks of you – drinking isn’t either. If what’s happening right now isn’t working we need to come up with something that does. I’m willing to give you whatever you need to get there.” It all sounds so good but what the fuck kind of life is this? “I don’t know what the fuck I need but thanks.”
“What happened to your girl?” he asks standing up. Fuck.
“To avoid killing her in the middle of the night I’m staying the fuck away.” He looks at me. “That’s not a good thought but she means something to you. I’d guess the same can be said for her. Did you tell her what’s happening?” I look away.
“No. she lost her husband in the war.”
“Fuck that’s a fuckin blow to take. You need to talk to her even if it’s just asking for some time to get this shit straight.” I shake my head. “I can’t even tell her how much time. What the fuck do I say? Hopefully someone will show to keep me alive for another day. She deserves to be happy and I’ve got no future to give her.”
“I’ll talk to Prez. Talk to your girl. We’ll figure out a way to get through this and you to make that future.” Whatever. I throw him chin.

The Northern Lights in the Arctic Look at the flaming lights shining high in the sky

Hi – I’m reading “The Seven Natural Wonders Of The Earth (My First Travel Books Book 2)” by Anna Othitis, Cecelia Morgan, LionheART Publishing House and wanted to share this quote with you.
“The Northern Lights in the Arctic Look at the flaming lights shining high in the sky, like beautiful colored party ribbons they stretch and curve as we fly. Waving like dancing figures, jumping left to right, they show off their brightness in the darkness of night. Clashing together, the colors so bold. Blue, green, pink and red story is told. So light and so bright telling of their love and pride, what an amazing natural wonder, another glorious airplane ride! The energy of the Aurora are the particles in solar winds clashing together and going past the Earth. This shows beautiful different colors of light that are reflected off the white snow in the north and south poles. These lights can be seen in the North Arctic and South Antarctic, Iceland, Alaska and Northern Canada. When the sun peeps up to rise in the sky, a greenish or faint red glow can be seen.”NATURAL

Taylor said nothing. She’d overreacted and she knew it.

You’ve got good instincts on the mat, kid,” Tim Stuart complimented.
As the most experienced martial artist on the team, he’d taken on the role of Sensei. He was a good, patient instructor. Jason had learned a lot in the last half hour, not the least of which was how hard Taylor Driscole could kick. He was still limping.
“Falling down is the most important point,” Tim continued. “Learn to fall, you can always get back up. Fall wrong, it’s all over.”
They practiced knocking one another down for awhile. Greg was paired with Alex Graves, leaving Jason with Taylor. It was ideal for size, but not for desire. Every time they grappled one another, Jason’s body reacted automatically. It was getting more difficult to control the manly urges.
“This time, come at her from behind,” Tim told Jason. “Grab her around the neck and pretend you have a knife. You right or left handed?”
“Ambidextrous.”
“Advantageous. Pick a hand. Taylor, be gentle.”
Jason didn’t like the look on her face as she turned her back on him and closed her eyes. He took a deep breath before running up to grab her. He held his left hand in a fist as if he held a knife. Grabbing her to him from behind, he accidentally got a handful of very tasty breast. She smelled fantastic and her hair tickled his nose as he held her close.
Taylor stiffened. She could feel Jason’s muscular body pressed close, his firm manhood just above the crest of her hips. Forcing herself to react to an attacker, she elbowed his gut and twisted the imaginary knife out of his hand. She hit him harder than she’d intended. Jason collapsed on the mat, gasping for air, eyes watering as he struggled for breath. His dry lips sipped oxygen raggedly.
“You trying to kill him, Tay-tay?” Greg asked as he gave Jason a hand up.
Jason stood slowly, doubled over, hands on his knees, as his lungs tried to find enough room to expand in his sore rib cage.
“Do you want to see Spence?” Alex asked solicitously.
Jason shook his head. Tim supported him, helping him walk to a nearby bench.
“I said disarm him, Driscole. Not kill him.”
Taylor said nothing. She’d overreacted and she knew it. The desire she felt warred with her training, causing major conflict. She tossed a clean towel at Jason, spun on her heel and headed to the dressing room in tears. Greg quickly followed her.
“Something me and the boys need to know about?” Tim asked gravely.
Jason shook his head. Alex handed him a bottle of water.
“Something’s not going on?” Tim pressed.
“We’ve got some personal—challenges—if you will.” He was embarrassed to admit his attraction. “I don’t want to get the lady in trouble, lads.”
“We’re close,” Alex said. “Tay’s like a sister. We’d never rat her out. But you’re feeling something even more personal. Am I right?”
“Oh, yeah,” Jason replied. “I’d love to say it’s just because of my incarceration, but it’s not.”
“You need a woman, friend.” Alex clapped him on the shoulder.
“Yeah, but not just any woman. That’s the problem. Until today, anyone with the right anatomy would have been great.”
“But not now,” Tim supplied.
Jason said nothing, just sipped his water.
“I wish I had some advice for you, kid. You can’t hardly tap that. It’s more than our jobs are all worth,” Alex said, staring at the door Taylor had walked through.
“Your jobs—my life,” Jason replied.

Hi – I’m reading “The Seven Wonders of the World (My First Travel Books Book 3)” by Anna Othitis, Cecelia Morgan, LionheART Publishing House and wanted to share this quote with you.
“Chichen Itza Castillo – Mexico Our first visit on this trip will be to visit Tinum, Mexico to tour a pyramid in Mexico built by the Mayans many years ago in 600 AD. It is named Chichen Itza, which means “at the mouth of the well of the Itza”. Look at that ancient city where the patient Mayans built their pyramid stone by stone, just like a square ice cream cone, with stairs so steep and deep for the ancient people to climb up to meet and sleep, have a feast and have the chance to dance to the merry music. The four sides of the pyramid have stairways and fairways with carved heads of a serpent. It is one of the oldest buildings in Mexico and is visited by many tourists who go to see the light-and-shadow effect on the Temple of Kukulkan, which looks like the feathered serpent god. You can crawl down the side of the pyramid and go inside the many chambers to see the old pottery and stone-carved art. When standing on the steps, if you clap your hands you can hear echoes because it is hollow and the sound bounces off the walls.”

I suddenly realized I probably had a lot of explaining to do. In fact, I was in deeper shit that I wanted to admit to myself.

Karen doa teaser.jpg
So here I was unemployed, and to add insult to injury, standing over a smelly dead guy. As I was squelching the urge to hurl again, there was a loud banging at my door. I skirted around the body, and ran to open it. It was Gerry, the building super. Gerry had slammed into my life for the second time, after a car accident involving his cab and my car, resulted in him getting fired and needing a job. We had gone to high school together. We hadn’t been friends, but he had played football with my ex Louie. I felt partially responsible for Gerry losing his job, so I managed to wrangle a gig for him as the super for my rent-controlled walk up.
I might add that it is the middle of May and we are in the midst of a heat wave. Everything smelled a bit riper than it would normally would.
“What in hell’s name is that horrible stench?” Gerry stopped short, quickly noticing the dead dude on the carpet. He quickly held the edge of his work shirt over his mouth and nose. I was sorely tempted to gag again. The stoicism I exhibited was slowly dissipating and being replaced by panic. What if the killer came back, and decided to finish me off?
“Okay Gerry,” I said, “cut the crap! How did you get Velcro’s’ body in here?” “What do ya mean how? You mean you think I did this, thanks a lot!” he said, somewhat pissed.
“This wasn’t your handy-work?”
“No! Why would you think I would do such a horrid thing?”
“Not sure really; maybe because you and Ray have the only keys besides me, and you love practical jokes.”
“Yeah, I do, but nothing this heinous! My practical jokes are more of an April fool’s kind of gag. Besides I don’t even know him.”
“Okay. I’m sorry I’m just trying to figure out how and why he got here. Furthermore he is wrecking my rug! “I know it’s odd to worry about a frigging rug right now but this is how I deal with stressful situations. I ignore the obvious problem, and settle for something mundane and harmless to worry about. Okay so enough about the damned rug. I focused on the corpse once again.
As I don’t do ‘cool nonchalance’ well, I retorted, “Gee good point I practically fell over him on my way out of the bedroom.”
“Didn’t it occur to you at some point during the night, that there was a rotting corpse in the middle of your living room?” Gerry asked.
“For one thing, I sleep with my bedroom door closed and my air conditioning on; and second, I was so tired after this weekend; I just came in and flopped. I didn’t even realize
I had a guest, dead or alive.”
“Well regardless of all that, we have to call this in.” Gerry got out his mobile and dialled 911. It was definitely classed as an emergency.
I suddenly realized I probably had a lot of explaining to do. In fact, I was in deeper shit that I wanted to admit to myself. I dreaded facing the local constabulary on this one. Picturing the headline, ‘Local girl kills debt collector in living room’ the guilt was flooding in, and I hadn’t done anything … yet. This thought was followed by what I thought my parents’ obituary might be, when they found out my predicament, ‘Man dies suddenly of a major coronary, directly preceded by death of wife due to gross shame”. The reality of the situation was really starting to get to me. I don’t look good in prison orange.
“So do you know John Doe?”
“UH, yeah I do actually.”
“Did your date go that badly?”
“He wasn’t a date!” In fact I wouldn’t even have classified Hodges as a friend. The shock was starting to wear off, and I could start to feel weak in the knees. Gerry caught me, as I was about to go down. I love a mystery as much as the next person, but not in real life. Gerry guided me to the couch and forced my head between my knees. Shock had truly set in, as well as morbid disgust, and revulsion. This had to be the weirdest situation I have ever been in.
There was a knock at the door again and it was the police.
The lead inspector and the crime scene unit converged on my building at once. Immediately, my home sweet apartment becomes a crime scene, confirmed by the usual crime scene yellow tape. The coroner waited outside until the initial investigation was finished.

Sylvia was definitely an interesting, if not strange, woman.

Ger murder and more 3.png
Sylvia had not looked directly at anyone other than Byron since entering the bar, at least if she did I hadn’t noticed. She also wasn’t carrying a purse, which I found odd – considering my extensive knowledge of women! She also hadn’t released his arm, except for the few moments while sliding onto her bar stool.  Evidently they were close, or she found some real comfort in having him close, because he was certainly getting all her attention.
Without testing her drink, she reached into Byron’s inside coat pocket and retrieved a pack of Tareyton cigarettes and lighter.  Handing him the lighter, she put one between those big lips and he quickly lit it.  Apparently now comfortable with her surroundings, she finally sampled her drink before blowing a mouthful of blue smoke out into the room.  Sylvia was definitely an interesting, if not strange, woman.
